Meet the Karen behind Karen Schipper

Hello! I’m Karen, the illustrator, designer, HUMAN behind Karen Schipper!

I first debuted my greeting cards in 2019. I was having a hard time finding cards with heartfelt, whimsical illustrations without being too childish, AND with messages that really resonated with me. Being an art director who loves illustrating, I decided that it was time I start illustrating cards I wanted to see in the world. I started wholesaling in 2022, and today I'm in 70+ stores in North America.

My hope is that my art will give others as much joy as I have in making it. My illustrations are inspired by my childhood in Hong Kong and my now home in Upstate South Carolina. You’ll find my cards to be characterized by spirited illustrations, whimsical colors, and sweet messages—all with a goal to make life a little brighter.

I love that magical moment when words and illustrations are combined in a way that makes people laugh, feel seen, and loved.

I work from my home in Greenville, South Carolina with my husband, son, and dog. When I’m not making art, we spend lots of time outside gardening, taking long walks, paddleboarding, cooking and eating. :)
